My book (written with Matt Stait) – Online Martial Arts: Evolution or Extinction? –  was released in May 2020. It’s available on Amazon.uk

Here’s the description:

We’re used to doing many things virtually now – but is it really possible to teach or learn a martial art online? This lively and perceptive book asks some searching questions about the essence and the future of the martial arts; and invites you to consider whether online martial arts are the death knell for authentic practice, or their much-needed saviour.

Best-selling author and martial artist Matt Stait and martial arts blogger and practitioner Kai Morgan question what the future of martial arts will look like.

Here’s what people are saying about it:

An important book that’s right on the pulse of what’s needed for the martial arts industry. The issue of whether or not martial arts can effectively be taught online has never been so crucial as during this 2020 lockdown. As a full-time professional martial artist, the issues weighed up in the book are wide-ranging and relevant. The book looks at the many ways martial arts has been taught in non-contact ways over many decades by way of defusing the idea this is a sudden and new development. The many positives of online access are explored as well as the disadvantages of internet-only training. As we start to consider how to make the transition back into contact training this is a perfect way to articulate the benefits of both on and offline tuition and tailor communication to clients successfully. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging book written by experts in their fields.
For someone with little knowledge and even less interest in martial arts, I found this book surprisingly engaging. The complementary experiences of the authors provide a narrative that is both informative and thought provoking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, balanced, easy to read, and timely
This is a wonderful resource. First, it is very skillfully written, clear and to-the-point, and easy to read. Secondly, it is comprehensive; as an instructor who plies the Web for teaching ideas and my own education, especially during the last 3 months of “lockdown,” they have in my opinion treated the subject in a very complete way. They have “covered all the bases” as we say in the U.S, gathering all the issues together in one place.

Another thing to praise the authors for is the perfect pitch or balance that they have struck in looking at multiple sides of each issue. It takes great subtlety, in thinking as well as writing, and no doubt much martial-arts experience and consideration over time, to navigate controversial issue like this with such a light touch […]

5.0 out of 5 stars – Sich entwickelnde Diskussion mit sehr aktuellen Bezügen [Developing discussion with very current references]
